Wooden Cable Reel to Table

A friend of mine who works at Lowe's claimed one of their left over cable reels and gave it to me for my birthday! I decided it would make a perfect table for our front porch. It's larger than the one we have now so we are more likely to use it and it makes more of a statement. I have it there now, but I can't decide if I should leave it as is, paint it, or stain it.

Here it is now:

And here are a few images I found on Pinterest to give me some inspiration. Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think I should do.

Leave it natural?

Paint it white? light yellow to match the chairs? another fun color?

Stain it?

Paint just the top?

  2. Thanks for the feedback! I'm enjoying it how it looks as is too, at least for now. It would make it a lot easier if I don't end up having to paint it. Thanks for following me! I always get excited when I see I have a new follower.

  3. You’re lucky to have a friend who has a cable reel. It’s also great that you found great inspirations found on Pinterest. Well, I think it’s better to leave it in its natural color or you can stain it, depending on the overall color of your front porch. It has been seven months now, and I bet you already have decided on the final touch of your spool. How does it look now? :)

  4. Hi Jeraldine! Thanks for checking!! I ended up leaving it how I got it and so far I am liking how it looks and getting lots of use out of it.
