While visiting my in laws this week my mother in law told me they had an old dresser in their shed that I could have if I wanted. Of course I jumped on this offer! I can never pass up free furniture! And it's a great piece, it definitely needs a bit of work, but it's a really great dresser and it even has cute knobs! I know exactly where I will put it, the only problem is, I can't decide what color to paint it.
Here it is, in my in laws beautiful green lawn, fresh out of the shed before I brushed off the spider webs, dirt and dust, and cleaned out the drawers.
Here's a corner view.
Here is the inside of one of the cleaner top drawers. The middle and bottom drawers had lots of screws and bolts in them along with some news papers from the 1950s! Unfortunately the weight of all the screws and bolts sitting in the drawers caused them to cave in a bit and made it so you couldn't open or close the drawers (as seen in the above pictures) so I had to take out that wood. I'm hoping my husband will be able to replace the wood, so that the drawers are actually usable.
Top of dresser before any sanding or paint.
This is where I plan on putting the dresser once it's finished. This is the first wall you see when you walk into our house, it can be seen from both the dining room and the living room, so the color needs to be perfect! The current blue desk is a little to small for the space, so I'm looking forward to having a dresser that will fit the space much better.
Now the only question is: What color do I paint the dresser??? Here are some of the colors I'm considering (Thanks to YoungHouseLove for most of the color inspiration).
RAINDANCE
This color was inspired by this dresser I pinned on Pinterest (the closest I could find to the dresser color). I would love to paint this design on my dresser, I just don't know if it would look as good since I have 3 levels of drawers instead of 4. I might try to do this with a different design that would fit my 3 level dresser.
GRAY HORSE
MOONSHINE
SNOWFALL WHITE
QUIET MOMENTS
SEA GLASS
INTUITION
BLACK
Get ready for these crazy picks. I'm not sure if I'm even ready for them...
14 CARROTS
(My mom suggested orange because of the orange in the rug in our living room, which connects with the dining room).
This is the best picture I have that shows the orange in our living room rug.
MAYAN GOLD
This matches the lighter stripe in the rug and is not quite as risky.
MARTINI OLIVE
I like this green, but I'm not sure if it would look ok with the green rug in the dining room.
CITRON
(I'm also worried this might clash with the dining room rug)
SUN PORCH
What do you think? Should I go with one of the more neutral colors? Or maybe take a bit of a risk and go with one of the bright colors for a pop of color in the room? Other suggestions? I'll keep you all posted on what I end up choosing and of course I will be posting pictures of the final results!
i like the intuition or the sea glass if you are going for something neutral but i also like the oranges, the 14 carrots definitely.
ReplyDeletetake a risk! .. and if you don't like it you can always repaint it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback! It definitely helps to hear other opinions. I still haven't decided the color, I keep going back and forth between several options.
