Black Burlap Pillow With Vintage 1912 Packard Needlepoint on Front and Geometric Print on Back

The front side of this pillow is made of black burlap lined with a black cotton fabric. A vintage needlepoint of an old-fashioned 1912 Packard car that I found at an antique store is sewn on the front. The back side is a gorgeous geometric print that is lined with a white cotton fabric.

Design Room Revamp

Since we moved into our house in August I haven't put much time or thought into making my design room functional or cute in anyway, so it usually just looks like a big mess. A couple of weeks ago I decided it was time to do something about it. My biggest problem was I had a lot of fabric and nowhere to put it, so all the fabric that wouldn't fit on my little green bookshelf just sat in piles around the room.  We had some extra wall shelves lying around the house and I decided they would be perfect to put my fabric on and finally get some order in the room.

Here is the corner before shelves (I forgot to take a before picture until right after I finished screwing in the first set of brackets, so imagine they're not there yet).

As you can see, junk piles were everywhere

I cleared off the sewing table and found homes for all the things that were piling up there. Another recent addition to the room that has helped greatly in making the room more functional is this blue desk that my sister couldn't fit into her apartment, so she lent it to us. I have made it into my mail/ribbon/paint/pens/paint brushes/miscellaneous station. Next I want to get a giant framed cork board to put over the table and paint it a fun color and pin up inspirational designs. I'd like to find a good deal on one at some place like the thrift shop, I'm hoping to spend $20 tops.

And here is my favorite part: As you can see the shelves are hung and the fabric is all organized and in one area. I also put some nails in the wall to hang all of my rulers. My ironing board fit perfectly in the space between the book shelf and is no longer taking up unnecessary space in the middle of the room. I hung a white lantern because the room has horrible lighting. Also to add a little color and an artsy touch I hung an old calendar that has fun and inspiring graphic prints.

My dress form is now in a much more functional location so that it is now more accessible.

So there you have it! I am totally loving it and it has been about two weeks and it still looks this clean! It's so much easier to keep a functional and organized space clean because everything has a place and I don't have an excuse to just add it to the pile on the floor anymore.

How To Make Your Own "Places We've Been" Map

What you will need:

1. 6-7 square canvases for each continent. We didn't include Antartica because we're guessing we'll never make it there.  

2. Double sided tape

3. Different colored pins (at least 3 different colors)

4. Map of each continent (we got ours out of a vintage calendar so they were already in square shapes)

5. Ruler

6. Pen

7. Scissors

Cut out your maps and place them on the cork board to see how much cork board you need to cut off. Then with a ruler draw a line to mark where you need to cut the cork board and use scissors to cut it. Using double sided tape, stick the map onto the cork board.

Place pins in all the places you've been. Since my husband and I were both doing it we used pink to signify the places I had been, blue for the places he had been, and white for the places we both had been.

Hang it on your wall (we used pins) and you're done!

Small Hand-Painted Green Lattice Pillow

This pillow was made for my friend Kathryn who is an awesome friend and ordered a few pillows from me to give as Christmas presents. This one was for her grandparents. It is very similar to the other green lattice pillow, only it is much smaller (17''x17''), it's a different shade of green, AND It's cheaper!

How To Make Your Own Movie Ticket Cork Board

Here's what you need:

1. Movie Tickets. This can be movies you have seen with anyone, with your significant other (which was my case), with your family, your friend, etc. It may take a while to save up enough to fill up a board, unless you've already been saving tickets for years like me. Also, you can always leave room like me, for movies you will see in the future.

2. Any size cork board, mine started out black, but I painted it white to go with the rest of our frames

3. 1 pack of thumb tacks, I also bought white to match the white theme, but you can choose whatever works best for you.

Assemble Tickets on the board so that they all fit nice and close together, just to warn you this takes a lot of rearranging. Then pin them on with thumb tacks and you're done!
